Dogs are used to protect sheep and other livestock from the cheetahs in Africa – thereby saving the huge cats from potential shootings by aggrieved farmers.

    Let alone being a farmer IN AFRICA. Probably the most hard job imaginable due to the volatility in certain regions, not just due to super predators, but ethnic violence, drought, and the elements.

    The farmers, out of necessity, need to find ways to keep their flock less exposed to the elements and to predation.

    guys i know killing cheetahs are really screwed up but there doing it because if they lose live stock they lose money and food so if you say fuck the farmers well try being one first then see how it is

    Fuck the farmers? Have you ever ate anything in your life besides paint chips? Farmers place food on your plate. Show some respect.

    Let me also say that this program shows the immense value of LGDs of all breeds. We have Kangals here in the US doing the same jobs very successfully saving wolves in our National Parks.

    As greaturkishempire said these are Anatolians not Kangals. Do a search here for Kangals and you’ll see the difference.

    Not surprising. They are very tame. While technically a cat, it has a few dog-like traits, behaviour and capacity to be trained included. Another such doggish cat is called a serval.
    I wish I could buy a cheetah. No dice because there are too few of them left.

    Fuck the farmers. Goats are not about to go extinct so killing an endangered animal for a friggin goat (or whatever they’re herding there) is just plain incorrect.

    you are right. a leopard can kill a tough anatolian dog. But most predators don’t want to fight a fellow predator if they can help it. It’s no point winning a fight if you are injured and can’t hunt any more. Of course if a leopard is starving then the dog will be no match.
