I would say yes that is right

  3. Debatable.
Most dogs seem more faithful and reliable, and they are but so can cats be. They are just not so excellent or ‘outspoken’ at showing it. A dog will dance around you and lick your face. A cat will just place a nail in your leg and go to sleep in your lap.

I always thought cats were more passionate to the owner, but my dogs, or cats wouldnt leave me. I reckon it depends on the connection you have with the animal.

cats are independent creatures and can look after themselves

  7. YES! COZ I HAVE A DOG AND HE REALLY NEVER LEAVES ME…

Not really. A cat enjoys it’s freedom and will always go wandering off to explore or to just have a excellent time, but it will most often come home. A dog but, if let loose will never be able to come home if not properly trained. I’ve got two dopey dogs that the neighbors catch and bring home too me. Where as when I had a stray cat it would always come home at dinner time and run off to catch a mouse or whatever and leave it at our door step (yuck).

NOPE. I’VE HAD 2 CATS FOR 6 YEARS AND EVEN IF THEY HAD A CHANCE, THEY DIDN’T GO ANYWHERE. BUT DOGS ARE MORE CURIOUS I GUESS BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS GO ANYWHERE THEY WANT

  11. Dogs are the better animal to get right

  12. No, cats don’t leave their owners easily. Cats in fact are much more sensitive to their owners moods than dogs. You just cannot compare behaviour between cats and dogs.

  13. can,t answer for all cats, & won,t go into fantastic detail about my cat, except the fact that she despises anyone but me, so if I were to die she would have to go with me, cause no one would beable to look after her, she,s just plain mean.

  14. NO! Dogs tend to mind better when you call them where as a cat pretends he doesn’t know what “no” is, and will act deaf and turn his back to you mostly when questioned to do something, lol. But if you like them, and vise versa , they will stay with you forever! Cats and Dogs are fantastic companions. Have went all over with both and like is the only requirement. Hope you get one :) Excellent Luck!

  15. No.
It all depends on the connection with your pets.
I have known people with dogs that didn’t have a excellent connection, and the dogs darted every chance they got.
I myself have two cats, and if by chance they get outside, they come when they’re called. They’re also very affectionate, and like to be near me all the time.
It depends on the cat or dog, as well as the person they live with.

  16. i have both cats and dogs and neither have left. both are faithful to me. maybe i am just lucky.

  17. It really depends on the personality of the animal. Some cats are aloof and some dogs are. Loyalty in animals is as excellent as it is in people. It can change. from day to day. Generally I reckon most animals are loyal to their owns to a point, but survival comes first so don’t expect Lassie or Garfield to save Timmy from the well in real life.

  18. some cats simply leave their owner…probably for a reason.but usually no..

  19. It is often the case, cats are more “wild” than dogs, and don’t neccassarily depend on their owners as much.

I’ve got a cat and a dog, but, and it is the other way around with me. I reckon it may be because the dog was a stray, and used to living on the street and begging for her own food. Maybe her small brain realises she does not entirely depend on me to stay alive.

My cat, but, I had from a kitten, and she doesn’t leave my side. I can leave the window open and she doesn’t even try to get out. She follows me from room to room in the house, and comes to my lap as soon as I sit down.

I reckon it depends on the animals past etc… more than anything else!

  20. yes cats tend to be more independant than dogs though there are exceptions to every rule. but it does stress a cat out if they are taken away from their owners.

  21. (Gasp!) Mr. Met...you dog! 16. Jan, 2010 at 6:46 am

I don’t reckon so. Dogs appear to be more dependent because of the way they behave day-to-day. Cats become just as emotionally attached to their owners, though. I have seen depression showed by cats when they lose another pet in the home, or are given to a new home. Dogs and cats both become very attached to their people, as in any relationship. They just show it in different ways.

  22. I reckon it depends on the animals’ personalities and their connections with their owner. Cats tend to be more independent sometimes, but not always. Some dogs are that way too. It just depends on their each individual personalities and tendencies.
Excellent luck and I hope you and your pets bond friendships that last for many years!

  23. Everyone will tell you that cats are more independent but my two cats despise it when they’re left alone. They wait by the door to greet us when we get home and will “snuggle” with us in bed at night until we go to sleep. I reckon that it depends on how you treat your pets. If you’re “stand-offish” with them, they’ll treat you the same way and vice versa.

  24. It depends on the cat’s history. If a cat has been with you for several years, adjusting to a new home could be a problem for it.

Also, cat’s become very attached to thier fellow felines. I had two cats that grew up together. When one of them got sick with a rare blood disease we had to place him down. My other cat spent weeks looking for him. Then she just quit eating. Nothing we tried helped. Eventually, her liver failed from not eating and we had to place her down too. She literally died of a broken heart because her companion was gone.

  25. I know it is not right for my cats. When I go on vacation, I have someone come over and tend to them every day, but they won’t have anything to do with the cat sitter.

When I return home, they stay by my side 24-7 for several days.

  26. It’s not a questions of reliability or faithfulness. The fact of the matter is that cats are more intelligent (third most intelligent animal behind humans and dolphins), and are this more proned to act “independant”. Dogs are much more “imprintable” and are more susceptible to persausion and training. Cats are more like people in that you must earn their respect first, primarily by developing trust. Dogs constantly seek the approval of thier owners, and thus require more attention in terms of punishment and rewarding thier behavior. Dogs operate in a “pack mentallity”, so they look for a leader (ie you), or become leaders themselves. They tend to follow whatever orders are given to them, as long as it is given to them by a dominant figure. Cats do not need a leader per se, but are more apt to adopt you as a member of their family, wherein you are an equal. They tend to filter messages and may interpret orders as “suggestions” which they filter through their own minds and take their own moods into consideration of any “suggestions”. My cat follows me around the house and even follows me outside – not because he needs my approval, but because he wants the company. To say he is less faithful or reliable would be incorrect. He responds to verbal commands or cues much as a child would, acting independantly whenever they presume they can get away with it – based on the tone of the command given. The fact is that dogs are less independant than cats, but this does not make them more or less reliable or faithful. My cat is likely more obediant than most dogs, but it all depends on the relationship you foster with the animal. Dog owners often percieve cats as less faithful or reliable as they are used to the unquestioning servitude that a dog offers them. Cats are simply different.

  27. hmm….my friend’s dog just dashed out of the gate oneday when he opened it & never came back…..

  28. Dogs are pack animals and really heavily on family members. Cats tend to be a lot more solitary but do like to spend the occasional bit of time with their friends.

  29. NO, cats stay, dogs leave. All vet, know that cats are by a prov en fact smarter than dogs. Check any college for vet tec.
